What we correct

We correct factual errors: a wrong name, title, date, figure or quotation, a misattributed claim, or a description of a film, show, deal or ruling that the record does not support. Paid features follow exactly the same policy as the rest of the site.

How a correction appears

We fix the error in the article itself and add a dated note at the end that says what was wrong and what the article now says. Substantive corrections are never made silently, and the article's updated date changes with them.

Clarifications and updates

When a piece was accurate but could be misread, we add a clarification in the same way. When a story develops after publication, we add the new information and label it as an update with its date, rather than rewriting the original account.

Before publication

Articles are checked against the sources they cite before they are published. Where a detail cannot be confirmed from a source, it is cut or the article says plainly that it is unconfirmed.

Reporting an error

To report a mistake, use the contact page and include the article's URL, the sentence in question and, if you can, a source that shows the correct information. We review every report, and we correct the article when the record supports it.
