John Goodman has joined the cast of Netflix's The Beast in Me for its second season, playing Jack, the father of Claire Danes's character, Aggie Wiggs. The casting was reported on Oct. 28, 2026, by TVLine and by Variety, whose report was carried the same day by the news agency ANI.

Netflix's own page for the series lists Goodman as joining as Aggie's father and Danes as returning as the writer Aggie. The page gives neither a release date nor a plot, and says more details are coming.

The casting adds a long-established television actor to a series that was first planned as a limited series. It arrives after the first season's Emmy wins.

What was reported on Oct. 28

TVLine reported on Oct. 28 that Goodman, known for The Conners, will play Jack, the father of Aggie. The ANI report carrying Variety's account gives the same role and says Danes is returning as Aggie.

Netflix's Tudum page for the series names Goodman as Aggie's father, Jack. Plot details for Season 2 are under wraps, according to the ANI report.

Goodman's record on television

The ANI report describes Goodman as an 11-time Emmy nominee, including seven nominations for Roseanne. He won the Emmy for outstanding guest actor in a drama in 2007 for Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.

He later reprised the role of Dan Conner in the Roseanne revival, which was renamed The Conners and ran for seven more seasons, according to the same report. His other television credits include The Righteous Gemstones and Damages.

On film, the report lists several Coen brothers projects, along with Argo and Flight.

How the second season came about

The Beast in Me was announced as a limited series when Netflix picked it up in 2024, and it campaigned as a limited series at this year's Emmys. Season 2 was announced in September, according to the ANI report.

Netflix says the first season debuted at No. 1 on its Global Top 10, reached the top 10 in 88 countries and drew 43 million views in seven weeks. These are the streamer's own figures.

Netflix also reports 21 Emmy nominations for the season. At the 78th Primetime Emmys, Matthew Rhys won outstanding lead actor in a limited or anthology series for his work in the drama. Danes was nominated for outstanding lead actress.

Sean Callery and Sara Barone won a Creative Arts Emmy for music composition, according to Netflix. Variety's report, as carried by ANI, describes the win as outstanding music composition for a limited or anthology series, movie or special (original dramatic score).

TVLine notes that the renewal came shortly after Rhys's win. Netflix's page does not say whether Rhys returns for Season 2.

Who is running Season 2

Howard Gordon, who showran Season 1, will co-showrun Season 2 with Daniel Pearle, an executive producer on the first season. Gabe Rotter is the series creator and an executive producer, according to the ANI report.

Netflix says Season 2 is the first project of a new creative partnership between the streamer and Gordon.

Gordon has said the team would make a second season only if it found a story worthy of the first. TVLine and Netflix both carry that remark. The story itself has not been disclosed.

Jinny Howe, quoted by Netflix, said: "We are thrilled to bring back The Beast in Me and to welcome Howard Gordon to the Netflix family with this creative partnership."

Netflix lists the executive producers as Danes, Gordon, Pearle, Antonio Campos, Caroline Baron, Amy Lippman, Rotter, Conan O'Brien, David Kissinger, Jeff Ross and Jodie Foster.

“Netflix has not published a release date for The Beast in Me Season 2, and plot details remain undisclosed.”

Goodman's second new television role

The Netflix part follows another recent television casting. On Sept. 26, 2026, TheWrap reported that Goodman had joined the third season of HBO's The Last of Us, playing Joey.

Joey forms a duo with Paco, played by Ian Alexander, and the pair call themselves the "Heroes of the Highway." The same announcement added Laura Bailey as Elizabeth, a leader of the Seraphites.

Alexander and Bailey played Lev and Abby in the video game The Last of Us Part II before taking new roles in the HBO adaptation.

Returning cast members include Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, who leads the season, and Bella Ramsey as Ellie. Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle and Spencer Lord return as Mel, Nora and Owen. Jason Ritter and Patrick Wilson are also joining.

TheWrap reports that Jorge Lendeborg Jr. replaced Danny Ramirez as Manny. Ramirez, who appeared in four Season 2 episodes, dropped out over scheduling conflicts in late December.

Season 3 is the show's final season and is expected in 2027, according to TheWrap. It follows Abby after the events of Season 2.

What has not been announced

Netflix has not published a release date for The Beast in Me Season 2, and plot details remain undisclosed.

The confirmed picture is narrow. Danes returns, Goodman is added as her on-screen father, and Gordon and Pearle lead the production. Plot details have yet to be revealed.

The two Goodman projects sit on different services. The Beast in Me has no stated window, while The Last of Us is expected in 2027.
