Clarissa's Distributor and Release Timing
Neon is the distributor of Clarissa. The Nollywood Reporter reported on Feb. 11, 2026 that Neon had acquired worldwide rights to the film, the latest feature from twin filmmakers Arie and Chuko Esiri. It said, citing Deadline, that Neon will handle the U.S. theatrical release and Neon International will oversee foreign sales.
Wikipedia gives the acquisition date as November 2025.
The film is a Lagos-set drama, described as a modern take on Virginia Woolf's Mrs Dalloway. Wikipedia calls it a reimagining of Woolf's 1925 novel. Sophie Okonedo plays Clarissa, and India Amarteifio plays the younger Clarissa. The Nollywood Reporter says it was shot on 35mm across Lagos and Delta State.
The Esiris' debut feature, Eyimofe (This Is My Desire), won multiple African Movie Academy Awards, was distributed internationally by Janus Films and was later added to the Criterion Collection. Afreximbank's CANEX Creations Inc. is listed as a financier.
Wikipedia lists the film as premiering in the Directors' Fortnight at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival on May 16, where it was nominated for the Queer Palm. It says a limited U.S. release is scheduled for Dec. 11.

Ceremony Date and the Audience Award
The ceremony is set for Monday, Nov. 30, 2026, at Cipriani Wall Street. It will be broadcast on YouTube.
The Audience Award returns after a six-year hiatus. It honors films that become defining cultural moments through their impact, reach and resonance. Gotham members vote on the winner, and the award goes to the credited director or directors and producers.
Nominees were drawn from submitted films and measured by opening-weekend per-theater average against the highest-rated and most-watched films of 2026, as reported in box office tracking and on Letterboxd. The eight nominees are Backrooms, La Bola Negra, The Drama, The Invite, Michael, Obsession, Project Hail Mary and You Can See Everything.
Jeffrey Sharp, executive director of the Gotham Film & Media Institute, said it was a pleasure to announce the nominees. He said it has been a remarkable year for film, with audiences turning out in theaters for bold, distinctive work from first-time filmmakers and established artists alike, and that the nominations and the Audience Award's return celebrate a creative community that has been at the heart of the Gothams for more than three decades.
The release says separate juries will determine the final recipients of The Gothams.
